HELLO ALL!!! I am back from Japan after a 2 week
longshort holiday! Am quite happy to be back in SG although I do miss the food and shopping there… But I won’t be here for long! Am leaving for 4 months in Aug due to my student exchange and my biggest worry would definitely be leaving my dearest pup Prince behind. :(
If you’re a pet owner, you would know how difficult it is to leave your pet behind, for such a long time too! And I’m not just talking about missing Prince and whatsoever, I am talking about pet owner duties which I am so worried no one can handle!
I’m talking about cleaning his ears, bringing him swimming, getting him groomed, making sure his teeth are clean, clipping his nails… Etc etc. The list really goes on and on and on…
Usually my family does help out with walking, feeding and bathing him, but when it comes to ear cleaning and nail clipping it’s me who does that because it’s not as easy as it seems. I actually took quite a long time to get used to doing those stuff.
So yeah. Those basic grooming stuff… I do it once a week and 4 months is a total of 16 weeks!! I can’t imagine what’s going to happen if I leave him like that. He’ll probably be down with an ear infection if left alone. Especially for Golden Retrievers, due to their flappy ears they don’t get aired as much as other dogs… Say, Corgis.
Ok I am babbling and babbling… But anyway, cut the long story short, Prince and I are part of a Facebook Group called the Singapore Golden Retriever’s Club and we saw many member singing high praise of a home groomer (YES!! MEANS MY FAMILY CAN JUST MAKE A CALL AND GET HIM GROOMED AT HOME!!) called Ian Wong from Awesome Pawsome.
I dropped him a Facebook message and we scheduled an appointment for Prince to get a basic grooming done. I wanted to see if Prince was comfortable with him and if I could get Ian to come over and groom Prince while I am away, without inconveniencing my family. It’s a win-win situation!
So the day came when Ian dropped by with his partner from Awesome Pawsome and they brought EVERYTHING with them. The grooming stand, blowdryers, shampoo, and all their grooming tools etc. All we did was provide them a space for Prince to get groomed, towels, a water point (for bathing) and a powerpoint.
It wasn’t a problem for us because Prince bathes at home most of the time anyway. So we had most of the stuff ready for Ian when he came! (I think you can let Ian know beforehand if you don’t have enough space/etc and see what he can do!)
So like I said, I opted for the Basic Grooming for Prince. Prices range from $50 – $80 based on the size of your dog. Prince is Large of course. Ask Ian for a better idea!
The Basic Grooming package includes: Nail clipping & Filing , Removing of ear hair, Ear cleaning, Shaving of belly, Underpaw & Sanitary areas, Expressing of anal gland, Bath & blow, Brush out.
The Full Grooming includes everything in the Basic Grooming package plus Full Coat Styling! Not too sure what is that but you can contact Ian for more details!

Prince started off with clipping his nails, something Ian did so quickly and I was like “WOAH. SKILLED LEH!!” Hahaha. Because of his years of experience, he knows best how to clip a dog’s nails and Prince didn’t even flinch at all. Usually when I do it Prince will “keep” his paws from me. LOL.
After that Prince got his nails filed because they were kinda sharp after getting cut. Similar to humans la. He really was being treated like royalty that day. Befitting of his name. :P
That’s Prince sitting down calmly and getting his nails filed.
After that, Ian went on to clean Prince’s ears. Which can really be damn gross and smelly if not handled properly. Prince actually went through a few bouts of ear infections in the past because his ears got dirty so quickly, and we didn’t clean it frequently enough. It’s actually one of my greatest fears leaving him behind for 4months.
So anyway, Ian and his partner did a really good job cleaning Prince’s ears! It was super fast and he was done in a jiffy!!
OOPS can see his lollipop sticking out here, but he obviously looks quite comfortable with Ian. Something I feel is very important. How am I supposed to entrust my dog to a person who he doesn’t like right??
So the end result of Prince’s ear is a squeaky clean canal! Ian also told me to observe how they clean Prince’s ear so I can do better next time when I do it myself. Thanks Ian!!!
Next up was getting his paw pads trimmed! YES!! There’s actually fur which grows between the paw pads of your dogs!
Next up was cleaning up Prince’s backside… Hahahaha. Of course this is to make sure when your dogs poo, it doesn’t get all over the fur surrounding the area. Hygiene purposes! Like humans la… ;P
Later on he got his belly area shaved for a cleaner look.
Yes Prince! Looking handsome already!
Next up, he got a full brush down using a Furminator (REALLY COOL BRUSH!!!) that removes all the fur that Prince is shedding!! Dogs like Prince always go through a shedding season (like everyday or sth lor LOLOL) and they end up leaving fur balls all over the place! Even on my clothes when I give him a hug…
So what this Furminator does is that it removes all these “loose” hairs so you’ll have a cleaner and less furry house! Say goodbye all the fur on your clothes, furnitures and floors! I even get them in my fish pond sometimes because Prince likes to hang around there… Poor fishies. Haha.
After getting brushed down, Prince went on to get Ian’s signature Golden Retriever cut which I totally dug!! Some stupid groomers give dogs things like a “puppy cut” etc, and it really looks like shit. I trusted Ian with Prince after seeing all the other GRS in the FB group looking totally fab and he worked his magic with Prince!
Trim trim trim!
And alas! Prince’s favourite part of the whole session… BATH TIME!!!
My GR really LOVES water and there is nothing that would stop him from jumping into a pool. Not even a crocodile. Really. So he enjoyed this part the most and you can see from the pictures below! :P
OH!! And this… Is Ian’s special shampoo and conditioning formula which he BLENDED, literally, in front of me. I was like… Eh a blender?!?! WHY!??!
He told me it mixes the shampoo and conditioner better and gives the dog a better wash! I think this actually makes sense because when we drop a whole dollop of shampoo/conditioner on our pups when bathing they either don’t get totally mixed with the water, or completely washed off. Blending it makes sure the foamy part is 100% mixed! Smart uh!
Enjoying his spa like a King… Hahaha.
Haha my little happy dog. So so happy with his foam bath I tell you!
I think this was his last attempt at telling us, “NOOOO I AM NOT DONE YET! MORE WATER PLEASE!!!”
So we got Prince back to the grooming stand and cleaned him up with fluffy clean towels!
After that, Ian took out this HUGEASS blow dryer and started to dry Prince up at light speed!
Apparently, it’s only with these high speed dryers that you can achieve the “after-grooming-super-fluffy-look”!
DAD!! I WANT ONE!!!!
Someone’s looking good already! Getting fluffed up!! I love it when he’s puffed up like that :)
Ok so the next few pictures are just going to be of Prince looking awesome and fluffed up. HE IS SO CUTE. IF I MUST SAY SO MYSELF!
After blowdrying him completely, Prince got his second trim and he was so good looking!! YAY!!!
I love his bushy tail. It’s the cutest thing on earth. Never stops moving….
And Prince was done!!!!!!
Thank you Ian from Awesome Pawsome who groomed Prince to look like real ROYALTY at the comfort of our home! We were so happy to have you!! Prince looks and smells so so good now!!!!!! :)
I’m not so freaked out about going on exchange now… I know you’ll just be a phone call away! :P
